2008 RP3 Certification

Congratulations for achieving RP3 certification! I’m sure you and your staff are delighted to be in such a select group of certified Reliable Public Power Providers in the United States.

ElectriCities has created a communications campaign to help you announce this achievement in your community. Included in the attached packet is a sample press release and two designs for ads, bill inserts and posters. You can choose either of the designs for use in your community. Strategic communications staff is able to prepare posters, 8.5 x 11 flyers and bill inserts for local use. ElectriCities can provide up to five posters and 100 flyers at no cost. Printing of the bill insert and placement of the ad in local publications will be the responsibility of the city.

I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to tout your achievement. Please contact Rebecca Agner at ext. 6334 or ragner@electricities.org to request communications pieces.

Hot Weather/Energy Conservation Plan (August 2007)

Throughout the southeast United States, this August has had more record-breaking temperatures than any in recent memory. The summer of 2007 will be recorded as one of the hottest months in history, with demand for electricity at all-time highs. As your customers receive bills for their record usage in the next month, we remind you of several bill inserts available to educate your customers on the connection between hot weather, increased energy usage and a higher than usual electric bill. The insert also offers energy conservation tips.

Two bill inserts are available, “How to Reduce your Electric Bill” and “We’re Prepared” (for hot weather.) “How to Reduce your Electric Bill” provides detailed tips on year-round activities to weatherproof homes. “We’re Prepared” (for hot weather) offers specific tips for summer weather.

In addition, consider using advertisements and information posted in customer service areas to educate retail customers about the availability of Home Energy Audits, Equal Payment Plans, Budget Billing and other payment options to assist customers in controlling their energy costs. ElectriCities staff can provide assistance in developing these materials.

You can view samples of the communications pieces on the members only section of the ElectriCities website at www.electricities.com/members/communications.htm. At this link, you can download a pdf of each insert to include the content on your website. There is also a page with energy-saving tips at www.ncpublicpower.com under the “Weatherize Your Home” tab. The page has a comprehensive list of energy-saving tips that can easily be linked to your city’s website.

We are ordering large quantities of each bill insert to guarantee the best cost per item. The Power Agency will cover the cost for you, we only need to know how many you need. To order bill inserts, visit the resources page listed above (www.electricities.com/members/communications.htm) and click on “Order Form.” Or, contact Rebecca Agner at 1-800-768-7697 ext. 6334 or ragner@electricities.org to place an order.

General Energy Conservation Plan for NCMPA1 Member Cities and Non-Power Agency Cities

As you know, energy costs nationwide are expected to increase this winter as a result of the increasing costs of fossil fuels, transportation and damage in the Gulf Region. In the east, NCEMPA member cities are facing increased costs for electric customers. In response, we have created a plan with bill inserts and advertisements to assist with customer communication. Although NCMPA1 member cities will not see a wholesale rate increase due to these factors, now is a good time to deliver an energy-conservation message to your customers. More (DOC) >>

A bill insert has been created to help communicate the advantages of high-efficiency heat pumps. Also, a bill insert with general energy conservation tips is currently available.
