Also beginning terms in January were: Linda Story, Town Manager, Granite Falls; Ronald Elks, General Manager/CEO, Greenville Utilities Commission; John Craft, Town Manager, La Grange; and Wilson Lacy, Vice Chairman, Fayetteville Public Works Commission. This announcement is the first in a series highlighting new members of the Board.

The 14-member Board of Directors advises and directs the activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA), and ElectriCities, a municipal electric system trade association. The ElectriCities Board also serves a coordination function.

Mayor Stultz was elected in November 2007 to begin her first term on the Board. Stultz has served as Mayor of the City of Gastonia since 1999.

“Mayor Stultz brings a tremendous amount of experience and enthusiasm to the ElectriCities Board,” said Strib Boynton, Vice Chairman of the Board and High Point City Manager. “She has an outstanding record of leading grassroots efforts in Gastonia, from beautification projects, to downtown revitalization, to helping Gastonia become an All-America city. The Power Agency owns 75 percent of Catawba Nuclear Station Unit 2, with an operating license until the 2040s. NCMPA1 also owns 32 diesel generators in its cities, supplying an additional 59 MW of flexible power to meet demand. NCMPA1 is planning to install an additional 4 MW of distributed generation in 2008. The diesel generators improve power supply flexibility and reliability in member cities. The Power Agency owns assets in excess of $2.3 billion with annual revenues of more than $500 million.

Members of NCMPA1 have consistently contributed to the state’s growing economy by adding jobs and investment through economic development. In 2007, NCMPA1 members added more than 500 jobs and $45.5 million to local economies.
