Four Elected to ElectriCities Board of Directors
Raleigh, NC, January 11, 2006 – Four individuals
were elected to the ElectriCities Board of Directors (ElectriCities
Board). The 14-member Board of Directors advises and directs the
activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency
Number One (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency
(NCEMPA), and ElectriCities, a municipal electric system trade association.
The ElectriCities Board also serves a coordination function.
The following people were elected to the Board of Directors:
NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners re-elected Mayor Richard Thomas of
Lexington to serve a second term. Thomas served as Mayor of Lexington
from 1989 to 1991 and from 1995 to present.
NCMPA1 Board of Commissioners re-elected Robert Smith of Monroe
to serve a second term. Smith has served on the Monroe City Council
since 1997.
NCEMPA Board of Commissioners elected Mayor Bruce Rose of Wilson.
Rose has served as Mayor of Wilson since 1992.
NCEMPA Board of Commissioners elected Mark Williams of Wake Forest.
Williams has been Town Manager of Wake Forest since 1993.
The board members were elected after an extensive nomination process.
All will serve a three-year term and will be sworn into office this
month.
The ElectriCities Board of Directors consists of six members representing
NCEMPA, six members representing NCMPA1 and two members representing
non-power agency cities. Other board members include: Jerry E. Cox,
Huntersville; J. William McGuinn, Jr., High Point; Samuel W. Noble,
Jr., Tarboro; William A. Seamone, Concord; Mayor Frederick E. Turnage,
Rocky Mount; Mayor Barry C. Hayes, Granite Falls, Chairman; Richard
Hicks, Farmville, Vice-Chairman; Walter W. “Dub” Dickson,
Gastonia, Secretary; Marshall Pitts, Fayetteville; Ralph Puckett,
New Bern.
The Board will elect officers in January.
More than 70 North Carolina public power communities serve nearly
one million residential, commercial and industrial customers. Member
municipalities both own and operate their electric systems, and
most have been providing electric service for 100 years or more.
ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc. provides customer service
and safety training, emergency and technical assistance, communications,
government affairs and legal services to public power cities. ElectriCities
also provides management services to the state’s two municipal
power agencies: North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number One
(NCMPA1) and its counterpart in the east, North Carolina Eastern
Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA). NCMPA1 has 19 member cities and
NCEMPA has 32 member cities. More information about ElectriCities
