Raleigh, NC, August 8, 2006 – ElectriCities Annual Meeting begins August 11 in Myrtle Beach. The two-day meeting includes educational programs for city owned electric systems. Members of ElectriCities are from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Included in this year’s agenda are programs on electric system betterment and the future of nuclear energy in the United States.

On Saturday, August 12, the annual Public Power Awards of Excellence will be presented to public power communities for excellence in the areas of customer service, economic development, grassroots efforts, communications and more.

Members of the media are welcome to attend any part of the meeting. A special registration table will be available for members of the media. ElectriCities requires advance registration.

ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc. (ElectriCities), North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number One (NCMPA1), North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) - More than 70 North Carolina public power communities, municipally owned and operated electric systems, serve more than 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in North Carolina. ElectriCities' members in NC, SC and VA serve more than one million customers. Most have been providing reliable electric service for 100 years or more.
