While many North Carolina towns were founded around mills or train depots, Monroe is different. It originated as an actual planned settlement in 1843 and was named for James Monroe, the fifth U.S. president. It quickly grew to become a major trading center for the Piedmont region of the state, where tobacco, cotton and other cash crops flourished. Present-day Monroe offers a wealth of fun things to do. From the Air Show and Music on Main Street to car Cruise-Ins and Halloween Happenings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Combine all that with the numerous outdoor parks, community centers, historic sites, dining, entertainment and cultural venues, and you’ll discover that there’s never a dull moment in Monroe.

This amazing two-day festival started as the dream of several local pilots. With the help of the City of Monroe, the Veterans Council of Union County, local businesses, and volunteers, it has grown into one of the region’s largest aviation events. There are numerous vendors, demonstrations and reenactments, and breathtaking aerobatics, all to salute our brave military men and women.
