Take a true walk on the wild side in Windsor, N.C., in this natural wetlands environment surrounded by cypress trees and other swampland flora and fauna. The boardwalk lets you explore right up to the edge of the Cashie River, which is 55 miles long and as deep as 80 feet in places, and is all located within Bertie County. Nearby is the Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge, which features the Charles Kuralt Trail and numerous other unmarked trails to wander. The unmarked trails include the natural river levees and old logging roads and allow for wonderful bird and wildlife watching opportunities in this wetlands paradise.
