Job Summary

The Town of Dallas, NC (pop. 5945) is currently seeking a full-time qualified professional to fill the position of Electric Director. Dallas has a 12.47/7.2KV electrical distribution system with two (2) Substations and nine (9) electrical distribution circuits. Currently, the Electric Distribution System Director supervises seven (7) electric line employees and three (3) tree trimming employees. The Electric Department works four 10-hours days; but is subject to emergency call-back service at any time. Dallas is located in Gaston County, 25 miles west of downtown Charlotte, NC and is experiencing dramatic growth.

Primary Responsibilities

This position performs difficult technical and administrative work supervising the activities of the electrical distribution system. As a member of the management team, the Director reports directly to the Town Manager and is responsible for planning and directing all electric department work activities; including long and short range planning, budget development and administration, and staff management. Work includes long range planning for infrastructure, supply needs, and system integrity; coordinates electrical distribution activities with outside agencies including contractors and engineers on field projects; oversees the use of department resources including the effective use of personnel, equipment, and materials; and directs safety and training programs for the department and ensures proper safety precautions.

Job Requirements

The Director represents the Town to a wide variety of citizens; other federal, state, and local agencies; businesses and civic organizations. The employee must exercise good judgement and initiative in carrying out assignments, with a priority on providing excellent service to the Dallas community.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with a major in electrical technology engineering, or related field and considerably responsible electric distribution system management experience is required as a minimum, and will be evaluated. Salary commensurate with education and experience, with a 5% increase upon successful completion of a probationary period. Applicant must pass a background check and pre-employment drug testing.
