Job Summary

Are you looking to build a high-voltage career in public service? The Town of Louisburg is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Electric Line Technician to join our electrical distribution team. This role is ideal for individuals ranging from apprentices to Class I or II Technicians who are eager to maintain and improve our community’s power infrastructure. As an Electric Line Technician, you will perform technical work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of both underground and overhead electrical distribution lines. You will work closely with the Line Crew Supervisor to ensure the Town’s lights stay on and the system runs safely.

Primary Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance: Assist in pulling primary/secondary lines, hanging transformers, and repairing street lights.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain line trucks, bucket trucks, backhoes, trenchers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Service Excellence: Respond to service calls for hook-ups, disconnections (including non-payment), and basic troubleshooting.
  • Line Clearance: Perform tree trimming and clearing to ensure line safety.
  • Construction: Dig trenches, set poles, and install underground cables and transformers.

Work Environment & Demands

  • Challenge & Variety: Work in both energized and de-energized environments, indoors and outdoors, and in various weather conditions.
  • Physicality: This is “Heavy Work.” You must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. frequently. Climbing, balancing, and working at heights are daily requirements.
  • Availability: This position requires on-call and call-back responsibilities to handle emergencies and outages.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma supplemented by technical training in electrical principles.
  • Experience: Experience in a skilled trade (preferably electrical) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensing: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class A North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Certifications: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, ElectriCities Line Tech certification.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical principles, safety precautions, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public.
