The City of Shelby is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electric Service Supervisor. Successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing, planning, directing, and supervising the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of the electric distribution system.

Essential job functions are: plans, prioritizes, and directs the work electric crews; schedules work duties; verifies timesheets; evaluates the performance of staff; supervises the construction and maintenance of distribution lines; inspects electric system and determines future needs, upgrades, tree trimming, conducting electric lines, expansions and new construction; investigates customer complaints and resolves issues; ensures safety precautions for the crew and the public; trains new employees; handles a variety of emergency situations with the electric system, prepares and maintains records and files; maintains system and fleet/equipment records; oversees maintenance of vehicles and equipment; prepares maintenance and repair work orders for the garage; picks up supplies, materials, and equipment; troubleshoots power outages; prepares maps for GIS department for electric system reference; checks and verifies metering and wiring sizes for installations of transformers; and oversees the work of contract crews and inspects work upon completion.
Qualified candidate must have a high school diplomas or equivalent with considerable experience in electric line construction and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the erection and maintenance of electrical lines; occupational hazards & safety precautions connected with the work; use and care of tools; standard practices applicable in making electric service connections and the location/areas of service of the distribution system; and in the use of line tools and equipment (including hot lines), including working aloft in a bucket truck. Must be able to climb poles and work with efficiency and safety; understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; establish and maintain good working relationships; make proper service connections with speed and accuracy; and train and supervise.
Special requirements: Possession of a North Carolina commercial driver’s license. Journeyman Lineman certification strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 24 months of hire. Completion of Electricities NESC school and Leadership skills for the Crew Leader upon hire or within 24 months of hire. Possession of and ability to maintain Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue certifications.
