Job Summary
Under general direction, performs highly responsible engineering and management skills in the design, construction, operations and maintenance of the following systems: electrical substations and their control systems; emergency and peaking generators and their controls; mobile and operational data communication networks; supervisory, control and data acquisition systems (SCADA); performs after hour standby duty at the engineering level.

Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday – 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the management, leadership and direction of the department’s substation, controls, communications and load management group which includes installation, maintenance, and repair of substation facilities, communication facilities, generation facilities, and building electrical and control facilities, along with maintenance and repair of distribution equipment
- Manages and directs the work of the Substation and Controls Engineering section and the Substation and Control operations personnel. Performs annual and semi-annual performance evaluations.
- Manages and coordinates multiple projects utilizing internal and external resources; prepares specifications and bid packages for equipment purchases related to substation and controls facilities.
- Assists the department head in the development of the department’s annual budget and long-range work plans (five-year)
- Develops the overall system protection or coordination scheme of the transmission and distribution system
- Monitors the loading and performance of substation and control facilities and initiates routines and programs oriented toward maintaining or improving the reliability of these facilities
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of switching orders as required
- Performs other duties as required
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Over five years of experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Preferred
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the State of North Carolina or Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
