ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc., has again been named one of the nation’s top utilities by Business Facilities, a leading economic development and site selection magazine.

Since 2017, the publication has recognized the nation’s leading utilities for advancing the industry, strengthening communities, and powering economic development across their service areas. ElectriCities has been on the list nine times.

Announcing ElectriCities as a top utility for 2026, Business Facilities praised ElectriCities’ Smart Communities and Smart Sites programs, “which help communities precertify industrial sites with verified utility capacity, zoning, environmental assessments, and transportation access,” Business Facilities editors wrote. “For businesses, this reduces development risk, shortens due diligence timelines, and accelerates speed-to-market.”

As an example of how ElectriCities supports successful site selection outcomes, Business Facilities highlighted Siemens Mobility’s advanced manufacturing and rail services facility in the public power community of Lexington, North Carolina. The project is located on an ElectriCities’ shovel-ready Smart Site and represents more than $220 million in investment and hundreds of new jobs.

“Early coordination on electric capacity, infrastructure readiness, and site preparedness gave Siemens confidence in long-term reliability and scalability,” the editors wrote.

“We appreciate Business Facilities magazine for recognizing the value of public power in North Carolina,” said Carl Rees, Manager of Economic and Community Development at ElectriCities. “North Carolina public power communities offer businesses the reliability, flexibility, and partnership they need to grow and thrive, and we’re committed to helping companies unlock new opportunities and succeed for the long term.”
