Qualification Process

This competitive $10,000 grant is available to NCEMPA and NCMPA1 members, and no match is required.

You can use grant proceeds to support a wide range of projects that advance your community’s downtown revitalization goals. Examples include:

  • Public improvement projects
  • Public art initiatives
  • Streetscape enhancements
  • Building reuse studies and redevelopment efforts
  • Business attraction or retention programs

That list is far from exhaustive. We’ll consider additional project types during the review process.

Note that all proposed projects must have the approval of the city or town manager. The ElectriCities Economic Development Grants Review Team will review all submitted applications and typically notifies applicants of their status within four to six weeks of submission.

Each member city or town may receive the $10,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant once every three years. If you’re awarded it in a given calendar year, you’re not eligible for the $5,000 Smart Communities Grant during that same year. Eligibility for the Smart Communities Grant resumes in years two and three following receipt of the Downtown Revitalization Grant. While we accept applications for the Smart Communities Grant year‑round (January-December), we offer the Downtown Revitalization Grant only in the spring and fall.

The grant submission cycle for Spring 2026 is April 7 through April 30.  If you have any questions about the Downtown Revitalization Grant process, please email econdev@electricities.org
