Share Your Public Power Message on the Radio—for Free!
Hey North Carolina members, just in time for Public Power Week (Oct. 5-11), here’s a chance to tap the power of radio without touching your budget: Enter our public power radio ad contest!
Send us your best 30-second radio ad script that addresses a topic important to your utility and to your customers.
We’ll select two winning ad scripts. We’ll work with our radio partner to professionally record the two winning ads. Then, we’ll air the winning members’ ads in their communities from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30—all at no cost to you!
Your script should be fun, localized, and brief. A typical 30-second radio ad is only 75-85 words. That’s about a quarter of the number of words on this webpage.
We’ll consider only one script entry per member, so send us your best. And be sure to get it to us by Friday, Sept. 12.
To help you get started, here are some theme ideas from the ElectriCities Communications team:
- The value of your public power utility in your community.
- How public power is focused on delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable service today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
- Public power’s (or your utility’s) reliability. Distilling your community’s reliability into a time range can be impactful. For example: “On average, our customers are without power for less than an hour all year.”
- Public power employees live, work, and play in the communities we serve. We are your neighbors.
- Public power lineworkers work safely through severe weather and other unique challenges to maintain vital services.
- Seasonal energy-saving tips.
For more ideas, check out the Value of Public Power Dashboard for sample radio scripts and commercials currently being aired across North Carolina. From the dashboard, you can also access scripts and recordings of previous winning radio ads.
