Like many communities across North Carolina, Forest City began as a simple crossroads on two trade routes, situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. By 1890, due to the coming of the railroad and the building of the Florence Mill, it had become a thriving community with 1,090 residents, electric lights, water service and 12 passenger trains daily. Today’s Forest City has a population of more than 7,000! The town motto is, “Small town. Deep roots,” and the spirit of community betterment is alive and well and can be seen in the pride everyone takes in keeping Forest City a beautiful place to live and work.
