Summer heat doesn’t have to mean high electric bills. ElectriCities’ energy advisors Alan Miller and John Keever already shared their number one tip to help you save money on your electric bill in the summer. Now, they’re back with three more easy, money-saving tips.
Lower the temperature on your water heater. For safety and savings, try 120°F. Keep in mind that every 10°F cut saves 3-5% on water heating costs. For bonus savings, wash your clothes in cold water. It’s easier on your clothes—and your wallet.- Switch to LEDs. They last 15,000+ hours, cut energy costs by $25-$45 during the lifetime of the bulb, and emit less heat than incandescent bulbs. Pair them with a smart switch to automate your lighting and save even more!
- Do your maintenance. Help your system work efficiently by checking filters monthly and replacing them when they get dirty. Keep furniture, rugs, or drapes from blocking vents. And have a professional check out your HVAC once a year to ensure it’s working properly.
Keep in mind that each month, you’re billed for the electricity you used the previous month. So, put these tips into practice this month to see the impact on next month’s bill.
